The surgery doctors at KM Hospital saved a patient’s life by removing several stones from the pancreas

KM has once again become a savior for the patient, performing a rare operation free of charge, covering the costs of medications.

Chronic pancreatitis occurs in two to five individuals out of one hundred thousand.

Mathura. The medical team of the surgery department at KM Medical College and Hospital has relieved a patient suffering from chronic pancreatitis by removing several stones from his pancreas, alleviating him from severe abdominal pain and illness. This successful operation involved the head of the surgery department, Dr. Ajay Agarwal, assistant professor Dr. Sagar Mittal, junior residents Dr. Ashutosh Singh, Dr. Durgesh, Dr. Vivek Mittal, along with anesthesiologist Dr. Anchal Jain, and nursing staff Ranjit Singh, Satish, Preeti, and OT department in-charge Rahul Thakur, Bhupendra, who provided special assistance. The chancellor of KMU, Kishan Chaudhary, congratulated the surgery department team for the successful operation.
In fact, 28-year-old Shobi, the son of Mobin living in the Chhata town, had been suffering from abdominal pain for two years due to excessive alcohol consumption, and he frequently needed to use the restroom. His family brought Shobi to KM Hospital, where he was examined by Dr. Ajay Agarwal and Dr. Sagar in the OPD. Upon investigation, it was found that the patient had swelling/chronic pancreatitis in the pancreas, with multiple stones formed, which could only be treated through surgery.
Head of the surgery department, Dr. Ajay Agarwal, explained that chronic pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas that leads to progressive destruction of the gland. As a result, stones can develop in the pancreas, blocking the duct that carries digestive juices into the intestine, which can lead to weight loss, indigestion, and pain due to stones. This disease occurs in two to five individuals out of one hundred thousand.
Assistant Professor Dr. Sagar Mittal reported that the patient had been complaining of abdominal pain for two years. The MRCP report revealed the presence of stones in the pancreas, and the pancreatic duct was swollen. Through surgery, the pancreatic duct was opened, and the stones inside were removed, and a Roux-en-Y loop was created by cutting the intestine. A piece of intestine was connected to the pancreatic duct. The patient has now recovered and returned home.

Senior Professor Dr. Yashpal Jindal explained that in this disease, the duct of the pancreas, which produces insulin and digestive enzymes, begins to destroy itself due to obstruction. This leads to a decrease in the ability to digest food and persistent severe pain. Prolonged obstruction can lead to stone formation in the pancreas, a condition known as chronic pancreatitis. In the initial stage, treatment is done with medication, but if there is no relief, surgery of the pancreas is performed to treat the patient.

Dr. Abhay Sood, Medical Superintendent of KM Hospital, stated that successful surgeries are being conducted by Senior Professor Ajay Jain, Associate Professor Dr. Sankalp Srivastava, Assistant Professor Dr. Ashvaneesh, and their junior resident doctors in the surgery department of KM Hospital. Patients from Mathura and other cities are undergoing free operations at KM Hospital at the expense of medications.
